Beyond the Rating: What FTEM Reveals About Student Learning

Beyond the Rating: What FTEM Reveals About Student Learning

This session explores whether Marzano Focused Teacher Evaluation Model (FTEM) provides meaningful insight into student learning—not just teacher evaluation ratings. Drawing on data from nearly 5,000 teachers across 168 schools in Oklahoma, we found that FTEM observations form a strong, reliable measure of teaching effectiveness, and schools with higher effectiveness scores consistently show higher ELA and math proficiency, even after accounting for demographics. These findings position FTEM as more than an accountability tool—it is a powerful engine for actionable, growth-focused feedback. Join us to learn what the research reveals and to gain practical strategies for delivering high-impact feedback that strengthens instruction and elevates schoolwide performance.
